KEEN Worcester shoppers were out before dawn in order to get a first look at the city’s new Wilko store.
Queues outside the Cathedral Square venue started forming at 5.15am with more than 180 shoppers keen to get a first look at the new store.
The first 100 customers received prizes including £20 Wilko gift cards and a selection of copper kitchen appliances, while also enjoying free hot chocolate and an entertaining speed sketcher in store.
A ceremonial ribbon cutting was held by the Mayor of Worcester, Coun Steve Mackay, alongside Vivienne Bull, from Cancer Research and Wilko Retail Director Anthony Houghton.
Branch manager Dana Read also presented the charity with a cheque for £500. Further entertainment including stilt walkers will be on offer at the store on Saturday, November 4.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support of the local people, it’s been a very positive start to our residence here at Cathedral Square and we can’t wait to welcome more customers to the new store,” Dana said.
