Worcester vets saved life of eight month old cat

A KITTEN is back to full health thanks to a Worcester vets who saved her life after she was impaled on a metal fence.

Eight-month-old Lola had recently been adopted along with her brother and was playing in the garden of her Worcester home, watched by her owner Kate Clark.

While Kate was looking after her other cat, Lola made a dash for a nearby tree and she lost her footing and fell, impaling herself on an old metal fence.

Kate said: “I ran across the garden after her and by the time I’d got there she was stuck on the fence with it going through her leg.

“I held her weight up and she was hissing and in so much pain.

“Luckily, my husband had noticed something was wrong and came out. He lifted her off the fence and we rushed to the vets.”

Linnaeus-owned Brentknoll Veterinary Centre were already waiting for the emergency case and vet surgeons Mike Harney and Simona Mihai took scans to check for any internal damage, before operating to close the wound.

Mike said: “Lola became impaled on a metal spike fence leaving a wound to her groin. We carried out surgery, prescribed painkillers and antibiotics and carried out three post-op checks.

“Within two weeks Lola was back to her normal, happy self. The wound had healed completely and we couldn’t wish for a better outcome.”

Kate added: “Keeping a curious kitten out of mischief during the recovery period wasn’t easy, especially when she wants to jump and explore everything.

“We ended up putting her in a dog crate to stop her jumping around at night.

“But two weeks later we have our clumsy and confident kitten back. And the first thing we have done is to have all the spikes removed from the fence so it won’t ever happen again.”
