STUDENT paramedics at the University of Worcester raised more than £1,800 for two lifesaving charities with a 24-hour CPR Marathon.
Running from 9am on March 16 until 9am the following morning, the endurance event saw staff, students and visitors take turns maintaining continuous CPR on a training mannequin for a full 24 hours.
The challenge, organised by members of Parasoc, the university’s paramedic society, aimed to raise both vital funds and awareness of the importance of early CPR in emergency situations.
Proceeds will be shared between Heartstart Malvern and Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
Dylan Stephenson, chair of Parasoc, said: “We’re all feeling a mix of exhaustion and pride. It’s a huge team effort from everyone involved, and seeing everyone come together over the 24 hours has been really rewarding.
“The endurance side was a challenge. During the early hours when energy levels naturally dip, we kept each other going by rotating regularly, checking in on one another and keeping the atmosphere positive.”
Sarah Lee, vice chair and administrator, added: “We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part and donated, it means a world of difference to these charities. We also want to thank all of our raffle prize donors, who gave some great prizes and helped us raise lots of money.
“We’ve spoken to Heartstart who have told us how with donations like these they’re managing to expand their mission across West Worcestershire.”
