Worcester students help plant trees at Chapter Meadows

GREEN-fingered students grabbed a spade to help plant a new woodland area at Chapter Meadows in Worcester.

Around 100 local students of all ages are set to help plant 1,000 trees at the meadows.

The University of Worcester and Heart of Worcestershire College were the latest teams of students to take part, helped out by event organisers Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.

Flood resistant tree species were carefully chosen so they will hopefully be happy at the meadows and thrive in the very wet winter conditions. The new woodland will enhance biodiversity at the meadows by creating vital habitats, shelter, and food for wildlife.

The current floods have delayed sessions with Pitmaston Primary School and Christopher Whitehead College, who hope to be at the meadows in the coming weeks to make their mark on the project.

Tom Greenway, the owner of Chapter Meadows, said: “It’s been fantastic having so many local young people getting stuck in and helping us to develop the meadows. We hope they are proud of what they have achieved and will enjoy coming down to the meadows to see their trees grow for many years to come.”
