A WORCESTER student took part in the ‘Waiting to Live’ campaign, raising awareness about 230 children in the UK waiting for a transplant.
Arabella, a year six student from Oasis Academy Wardon, has a genetic condition called cornea dystrophy which makes her vision cloudy.
Currently she doesn’t need a transplant, but, in the future she could need a new cornea.
Each child taking part in the campaign was represented by a handmade doll placed in hospitals – they had a QR code on it which allows people to listen to the childrens stories and encourage them to sign up and be a donor.
Arabella’s mum, Claire Oliver, said: “We are so proud of our daughter and her desire to support NHS blood and tissue/ Organ donation.
“Without this awareness the waiting list will continue to grow for the children in need.
“Arabella’s will to help, I hope, demonstrates to others the importance of supporting such causes.”
Mrs Owen, Principal, said “We are so proud of Arabella for sharing her story to raise awareness of the number of children who need transplants in the UK.
“Eyes are too regularly the part of the body that people say they don’t want to donate, but Arabella and her mum Claire’s stories make it clear how important these vital organs are.”
