CHILDREN from two Worcester primary schools have realised their dream of releasing their own music after being featured on SMASH HIT Songwriting School’s latest Greatest Hits album.
The children, Skye, Chloe, Matilda and Amelia, from Upton Snodsbury Primary School and Deffod-cum-Besford Primary School are in the band Big Petals and their single Flowers is the lead single on the album which is due to be released next week (August 29).
The girls have been performing with the school since September 2024 and have been involved in every part of the creative process with Skye on vocals, Chloe on electric guitar, Matilda on keyboard and Amelia on drums.
Oscar Wenman-Hyde is the founder of SMASH HIT Songwriting School and he said he started the company to transform music education for the better.
For the first time ever songs produced by the children from September 2024 to July 2025 will be released on all major streaming platforms.
All of the songs featured on the album are written, arranged and performed by children from the ages of four to eleven years old – all of whom can now call themselves professionally published musicians.
Oscar said he believes that Big Petals first song is the perfect track to introduce the world to SMASH HIT.
He said: “Flowers has euphoric energy, a catchy melody that is instantly stuck in your head and a sense of belonging, which is incredibly impressive for children as young as seven years old.”
The proceeds from the album will be donated to Erbs Palsy Group UK. This charity is close to Oscar’s heart due to having the condition in his right arm from birth and needing further support as a child to be able to play the guitar with his right arm.
By supporting Erbs Palsy Group UK, Oscar said he is ensuring that future children with the condition will gain the support they need, regardless of their passion.
Big Petals single is available on all streaming platforms.
