SCHOOLCHILDREN in Worcester were invited to help open a new supermarket on Ambleside Drive.

Children from Fairfield Community Primary School cut the ribbon of the new Midcounties Co-operative Food store and took part in an exclusive tour. Now the tenth Co-operative Food Store in Worcestershire, the £500,000 investment has created 25 new jobs and will provide essential services to the local community.

The 2,500sq ft former pub, will house a fresh bakery where local residents can pick up daily essentials while on-the-move such as pastries and freshly baked bread.

As part of The Midcounties Co-operative’s commitment to supporting the local community, the store will also stock 30 local products from farmers and producers in the area.

Dale Hudspith, Store Manager at The Midcounties Co-operative Food at The Lakes, said: “It was great to welcome the local children from Fairfield Community Primary School to mark our grand opening and see the first shoppers visit the new store.

“We’re committed to investing in Worcester and making a positive impact to the local community, and with our new store we’ve been able to create 25 new jobs and support a range of local suppliers that we know will be a hit with our customers.”
