Worcester primary school top of the class for diversity

WHEN it comes to diversity, a Warndon primary school is top of the class.

Oasis Academy Warndon is celebrating after achieving the ‘Investors in Diversity Silver for Schools’ award for the third time.

Also placing within the National Centre for Diversity’s Top 100 Most Inclusive Employers last year, the school on the outskirts of the city has worked tirelessly over the last few years to ensure they provide a diverse, equal and inclusive environment for both students and staff.

The Investors in Diversity for Schools Award, developed by the National Centre for Diversity, is a nationally recognised accreditation that assess a school’s culture and practices across Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE).

As part of the reaccreditation process, 59 members of staff at Oasis Academy Warndon completed a detailed diagnostic survey. One hundred per cent agreed the school fosters good relations across all communities, 98 per cent said they feel listened to and valued and 100 per cent said the school is committed to preventing discrimination and advancing equality.

The award also recognised Oasis Academy Warndon’s ongoing commitment to providing an inclusive education for all students. The academy ensures its curriculum reflects the needs of its pupils, helping them grow into moral, purposeful and hopeful global citizens.

Principal Suzanne Owen said: “We’ve continued to ensure inclusion is a key focus since we achieved the award initially in 2019. We pride ourselves on our academy community’s evolving approach to diversity and equality. Our bespoke curriculum ensures our pupils develop into moral, purposeful and hopeful global citizens, ready to make a difference in the world.”
