NEW life has been brought to a children’s play area in Worcester following an arson attack earlier this year.
Worcester City Council has installed two new climbing frames – one designed for toddlers and another for older children – with each featuring a slide and climbing challenges at Field Walk play area.
A four-way springer, designed to help improve children’s spatial awareness and their sense of balance, has also been installed.
In addition to the new equipment, the ground safety flooring has also been improved.
The project at the Battenhall ward park has cost £30,027.
The park’s perimeter fence will also be repainted and the much-loved pedal-roundabout refurbished in early 2026.
Coun Robyn Norfolk, chair of the city council’s place and economic development committee, said: “It’s lovely to see the Field Walk play area brought back to life and into action for local families to enjoy.
“It’s wonderful that the city council has responded to the loss of an important facility in this way. Hopefully the new equipment will be much-loved by families for years to come.
“This project is part of our Worcester City Play Plan, which is all about making sure children and young people across our city have exciting places to play, explore, and spend time together close to where they live.”
As part of the play plan safety fencing has been recently installed at the play area at the Green Hub Community Centre in Dines Green.
This was in response to safety concerns raised about a nearby road. The work follows a nest swing being installed at the Dines Green play facility last year.
The swing is designed for accessibility and is suitable for multiple users, helping children to develop balance, co-ordination, and social skills through shared play
Both projects are thanks to a £10,000 investment by the city council in the park.
Meanwhile, a plan to create a new pump track at Perdiswell Leisure Centre is also progressing. A contractor was recently appointed, and the track is due to be opened by the beginning of April.
