Worcester play area has new lease of life thanks to refurb

A PLAY area in Worcester has been given a new lease of life thanks to a major refurbishment and the installation of new equipment.

Old Tolladine Road play area now boasts a brand-new toddler play hut and an accessible nest swing, among other improvements.

The enhancements will ensure that the park remains a fun and inclusive space for years to come.

Worcester City Council, which manages 47 play areas across the city, has invested £32,000 in the project.

Coun Hannah Cooper, vice-chair of Worcester City Council’s place and economic development committee, said: “It’s fantastic to see this well-loved play area refreshed and ready for future generations.

“This significant investment from the city council ensures the play area continues to provide a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for local children.

“The new toddler equipment is ideal for little ones learning to play, while the nest swing offers a fun experience for everyone.

“And I’m delighted to see that the existing climbing frame, slide and roundabout feel brand new after being repainted.”

The play ground, in the St Nicholas area of the city, now has new safety surfaces around both the toddler’s and older children’s equipment.

Meanwhile, the pedal roundabout, climbing frame and slide have been repaired and given a new lease of life.

The new nest swing is designed for accessibility and is suitable for multiple users, helping children to develop balance, co-ordination, and social skills through shared play.

This project is part of the council’s Worcester Play Plan, which aims to improve play provision across the city and ensure that play facilities are easily accessible and inclusive for all ages and abilities.

Since the plan was implemented two years ago a range of new equipment has been installed including a new ‘Play on the Way’ equipment in Warndon, a half-court basketball facility at Gheluvelt Park and the city’s first pump track created at Battenhall Park. A second pump track at Perdiswell is due to be opened by spring 2026.
