AN internationally recognised violinist will be taking centre stage at Worcester’s Elgar Festival.

Esther Abrami will be performing at the festival, the annual celebration of the life and music of Worcestershire’s most famous composer, Sir Edward Elgar, on Friday, May 31.

In 2019, the French-born 26-year-old became the first classical musician to win the ‘Social Media Superstar’ category at The Global Awards.

Two years later, she was featured in Classic FM’s ’30 under 30 Classical Artists to Watch’ series, curated by Julian Lloyd Webber and was listed as a ‘Rising Star’ by BBC Music Magazine.

And she made her Royal Albert Hall debut in 2022.

The event will get under way at 9.30pm at Worcester’s Guildhall.

Esther will be performing pieces from her latest album Cinéma – which was released in September and consists of new arrangements for violin and orchestra of film and TV scores.

She will also be at Huntingdon Hall at 1pm on Friday, May 31.

The festival’s artistic director Kenneth Woods said: “We are so thrilled to be welcoming Esther to this year’s Festival; her dazzling talent, infectious personality and boundless enthusiasm for music-making make her one of the most promising young classical artists of her generation.

“Cinéma really showcases Esther’s versatility, musical sensitivity and technical mastery.”

This year’s festival is focused on the theme of ‘The Origins of Inspiration’ and will combine orchestral, chamber, vocal and choral concerts with exhibits and lectures to celebrate the life and music of Sir Edward Elgar.

Launched in 2018, the Elgar Festival was established by decree of Worcester City Council and is traditionally held on the weekend closest to Elgar’s birthday, June 2, 1857.
