ONE of Britain’s most famous living composers, Steve Elcock, will be coming to Worcester as part of the county’s Elgar Festival.

Elcock will be joined by the Festival’s Director Kenneth Woods for an informal ‘in conversation’ talk on Thursday, May 30 at 1.30pm at The Firs, Sir Edward Elgar’s birthplace, in Lower Broadheath.

His works have been performed by The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Cardiff University Symphony Orchestra and The BBC Philharmonic.

During the festival, his works will also be at the Guildhall from 7pm on Friday, May 31 as well as Worcester Cathedral on Saturday, June 1 as part of the Gala concert.

On the final day of the Festival, Sunday, June 2, Elcock’s Piano Quintet, unusually scored to include double bass, will be performed at 2pm at The Royal Porcelain Works.

Launched in 2018, the Elgar Festival was established by decree of Worcester City Council and is traditionally held on the weekend closest to June 2, when legendary county composer Sir Edward Elgar was born in 1857.

This year’s festival will run from Tuesday, May 27 to Sunday, June 2.
