Worcester youngster braving two-hour charity half-marathon for rugby team

A WORCESTER student is set to take on his biggest sporting challenge yet when he attempts to run a sub-two-hour half marathon to raise funds for his sports team.

Max Fenton, aged 12, a sports scholarship student at RGS Worcester, has tasked himself with the running challenge to help support the costs of his upcoming tour with his Under-13s team, Droitwich Rugby Club (RFC).

Any cash left over will go towards buying video equipment to monitor the rugby teams’ games for post-match analysis.

Max had set a goal of £65 but has already smashed his target, with the fund sitting at £380 at the time we went to press.

He will set off on his personal best attempt half marathon alongside his Uncle Steve this Sunday from Droitwich RFC at 11am, hoping to return back to the rugby club within two hours – covering a total of 13.3 miles.

The 12-year-old has been braving an 11-week training plan which has been created to fit around his other sporting activities and fixtures.

Max said: “I thought I would raise money by doing something I love but also by taking on the biggest challenge I have ever faced physically.

“It will be tough, but I am committed to it.”

Max, who dreams of becoming a pro athlete or rugby player, has been playing the sport since the age of four in the position of wing or full back.

He hopes his Droitwich RFC teammates will be cheering him on at the finish line on Sunday.

Max’s mum, Louise Fenton, told the Standard: “I am immensely proud of him, he is working so hard. I have no doubt he’ll smash it.”
