Worcester woman won award for being an unsung hero

A WORCESTER woman was presented an award for being an unsung hero in her community at the annual Community Heroes Awards, held on June 19.

Platform Housing Group and its partners celebrated the event which honoured people and organisations for their outstanding contributions to local communities, highlighting the significant impact of their efforts.

The prestigious Community Partnership Award was presented to Sue Turner from Worcester, a family liaison and nurture lead at Cranham Primary School.

Sue’s instrumental role in establishing a special family support unit at the school has brought a myriad of services for both parents and children under one roof.

Sue said: “I see my role as bridging a gap between the parents and the teachers and can’t stress enough that there is always someone here in my team that can help; nobody should feel alone or isolated or unsure what to do.

“Helping each other makes for a better community and enriches lives; we’ve all experienced some sort of trauma in our lives and I am no exception.

“For me, the real reward is seeing the children happy when previously they may have felt as though they had the weight of the world on their shoulders. I would like to thank Platform for its support.”

Marion Duffy, chief operations officer at Platform Housing Group, said: “Sue is amazing; she provides such a great support to both the school and the local community.

“She brings people together in a safe and welcoming space and has truly changed lives. She provides help when it is needed and is such an inspiration.”

The award category was sponsored by Nationwide Windows and Doors and are made possible by the main sponsor, Travis Perkins Managed Services, the UK’s leading supply chain and procurement solutions partner to the repairs and maintenance sector.
