A BID has been launched to raise the cash needed to install security equipment at a popular charity after recent vandalism caused ‘significant damage’ to its home and impacted the morale of many of its youngsters.
West Mercia Police received reports of vandalism on November 22, during which eight windows were smashed at the Worcester Sea Cadets Diglis Boating Station.
Investigations into who was behind the incident are ongoing.
A JustGiving page has recently been launched by the sea cadets to add security around the unit on Portland Walk as well as to repair the damage to the boating station.
Bosses want to raise around £8,000 to add CCTV, security lights, and fencing to help deter anti-social behaviour.
The charity doesn’t have the financial resources to pay for this itself and wants to ensure any funds raised by its volunteers and cadets through voluntary activities can pay for trips and boating equipment.
Worcester Sea Cadets was formed in 1937 and is a charity which has supported thousands of local young people aged between 10 and 18.
Cadets are taught valuable life skills which will help them achieve their full potential, and contribute positively to their community.
The charity currently has around 50 cadets who dedicate their time to learning values such as teamwork, respect, loyalty, self-confidence, commitment, self-discipline and honesty.
A spokesperson for the Worcester Sea Cadets said: “We transform our cadets into confident, resilient young people who thrive in a complex world.
“Many of these ex-cadets then go on to help and support the next generation within our community.
“The perpetrators have affected the well-being and morale of those who have worked so hard to try and better their selves.”
