Worcester Raiders 'very hopeful' of Sixways lease extension

WORCESTER Raiders chairman Steve Harris said he is ‘extremely hopeful’ the club can announce a long-term lease agreement at Sixways Stadium ‘very soon.’

The club already has an agreed lease at Sixways, the former home of the now-defunct Worcester Warriors rugby club.

In July 2020, Worcester Warriors’ then co-owners Colin Goldring and Jason Whittingham became joint majority owners of Raiders, confirming Sixways as their new home.

Warriors’ financial plight in 2022 raised concerns about the future of Worcester Raiders, but last March the club confirmed they would remain at Sixways Stadium for the 2023/24 season.

Raiders chairman Steve Harris said positive meetings had already taken place to extend the club’s lease long-term.

He added: “We have to remember it was only two years ago that Sixways went into liquidation, not long after taking ownership of Raiders, leaving the club uncertain of its future both on and off the field.

“Effectively the club is now a new business run by its members, starting again after a difficult few years.

“With the generosity of the Worcester people, its sponsors, and club members who rallied together the club survived a difficult period.

“Every club member past and present has worked tirelessly for our club to succeed.

“The new management team are already planning and looking for promotion from Step 5 next season, I’m sure they won’t mind me saying after finishing the season strongly.”
