Worcester man's 'inspiring' daughter's cancer battle is inspiration for braving London marathon

A WORCESTER runner has put his foot forward to brave the London marathon this Sunday (April 21) to raise money for a charity which helps children such as his young daughter through their battles with cancer.

Dave Fletcher’s daughter Isobel was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2015, just three days before her 2nd birthday.

Isobel, now aged 9, has had cancer three times and is currently undergoing CAR T-cell therapy, which is designed to target cancer cells more quickly and cause fewer side effects.

Sunday’s event will be the second time Dave has braved the famous 26.2-mile trek in aid of Children with Cancer UK, which leads the fight to help prevent youngsters like Isobel from having to suffer through the condition.

The 44-year-old from Claines said he wants to take on the marathon to show the strength he takes from Isobel’s brave battle with the disease.

Dave said: “For somebody so small, Isobel has been through so much at such a young age.

“As a father, witnessing my daughter’s journey with cancer has fuelled my determination to make a difference.

“Running the London Marathon in support of Children with Cancer UK is my way of giving back for the hope they continue to provide.

“Knowing their funding has played a part in pioneering treatments, including the one my daughter is currently benefiting from, fills me with gratitude.”

So far, Dave has raised over £1,700, smashing his £1,000 target.

Dave is one of over 1,300 runners who will be completing the London Marathon to help raise crucial funds for Children with Cancer UK, many of whom have a personal connection to the cause.
