Worcester health patients to benefit from £1.5billion funding boost

Worcester Editorial 14th Apr, 2024   0

HEALTH patients in Worcester are set to benefit from a share of a £1.5billion government allocation.

The Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Care Board (ICB), which supports improvements in the health and well-being of those in the areas, has been allocated the cash for 2024/25 by the Department for Health and Social Care.

The ICB, along with other organisations, has been given £2.8million in funding to buy new cutting-edge equipment for several clinical research areas.

Since September, there have been an extra 26 full-time equivalent doctors and 53 nurses added for the ICB to serve people in Worcester.

The Three Counties Medical School has also received funding to start admitting students from next September.

Worcester MP Robin Walker said: “With more doctors, nurses, and GPs, we will be able to continue treating people while making further progress on handling the cases which have arisen during the pandemic.

“I want to pay tribute to all the hard-working people who, as part of our local NHS, help keep our community in good health.”
