Worcester fashion designer announced new collection 'Point of Sail'

AN EMERGING fashion designer from Worcester and recent graduate, Alexandra Willcock has announced her unique brand and graduate collection, Point of Sail.

This collection embodies her passion for sustainable fashion and her deep connection to family memories, offering a fresh perspective on traditional materials and women’s empowerment in the world of sailing.

Over the past three years, Alexandra has immersed herself in sustainable fashion, exploring innovative methods to rethink conventional materials.

Her brand stands out in the fashion industry, characterised by a commitment to sustainability and a distinctive identity that sets her work apart.

The Point of Sail collection represents a sustainable and resourceful approach to design by reusing unwanted and damaged sails from local sailing clubs.

This functional and unique womenswear sailing collection is designed to empower women in a traditionally male-dominated sport.

Inspired by the typography and numbering on laser sails, as well as signal flag designs, the collection features a nautical theme, with sailcloth graphics adding authenticity to each garment.

The pieces blend style and performance, providing confidence for women on the water while showcasing the uniqueness of sustainable fashion.

Alexandra said: “My graduate collection is a true reflection of who I am now.

“Each piece carries a personal touch and a meaningful story.

“Family has been central to my university experience, and the past few years have reminded me of the wonderful memories I have shared with them.

“Sails are timeless; their function remains unchanged, yet they carry the beauty of age and experience.

“By repurposing sails, I have crafted a collection that is not only sustainable but also deeply personal.”

Her designs highlight the unique textures and durability of sails, demonstrating that sustainable fashion can be both innovative and stylish.

The process of transforming sails into fashionable garments challenged Alexandra to trust her instincts and embrace her creativity.

“With this collection, I wanted to provide confidence and empower women.”
