Vital work to impact rail journeys in Worcester next week

Worcester Editorial 17th Apr, 2024   0

ESSENTIAL engineering works are set to impact rail services between Hereford and Worcester next week, Great Western Railway has confirmed.

Network Rail plans to replace the tracks between Worcester Shrub Hill and Evesham stations.

Between Monday and Friday, Great Western Railway trains will be affected between Evesham and Hereford and from Cheltenham Spa to Worcester Foregate Street.

During this time, services between Bristol Temple Meads and Worcester will terminate at Gloucester, with other train services running between Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa.

Replacement buses between Worcester Foregate Street and Evesham or Cheltenham Spa will also be in operation.

However, CrossCountry will still operate train services between Gloucester, Cheltenham Spa, Ashchurch for Tewkesbury and Worcestershire Parkway.

The West Midlands Railway line between Birmingham New Street and Hereford, which stops at Bromsgrove, Droitwich Spa, Worcester Foregate Street, Malvern Link and Great Malvern, will also be available.

Billy White, Great Western Railway’s station manager for Oxford, Didcot and North Cotswolds, said: “This improvement work forms part of an ongoing programme of maintenance, helping to ensure that we can continue to provide consistent and reliable services.

“Ticket acceptance has been agreed to enable customers to travel on other train services between London and Worcester or Hereford instead. However, these alternative travel arrangements via Birmingham or Bristol Parkway will make journey times much longer, so please check before you travel.”
