South Worcestershire runner makes it to Paris Olympics

Worcester Editorial 5th May, 2024   0

A FORMER Malvern College student turned British champion marathon runner has made her dreams a reality after being picked to represent Team GB at the Paris Olympics.

Rose Harvey has been on an amazing journey to win selection just a few years after being made redundant during the Covid lockdown.

Rose set herself a lockdown project – to make the Surrey County running team. After clocking 2 hours 30 minutes in the Cheshire Marathon, she leapfrogged county running and secured herself an invitation to the England half marathon team.

From there she turned professional in 2022, with a sponsorship from Puma.

Soon after she represented Great Britain at the World Championships and later that year, became British champion at the 2022 London Marathon.

In October, 2023, Rose clocked 2 hours 23 minutes at the Chicago Marathon, placing her sixth on the British all-time list and beating the Olympic qualifying standard.

Now the 31-year-old will compete for Olympic glory in Paris which kicks off on July 26.

Rose said: “I am beyond excited to have been selected for the Great Britain team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The road to Paris has begun. Of course, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone in my team who has believed in me and supported me along the way.

“Follow your dreams. They might just become your reality.”
