SEVERN Trent Water announced a significant expansion of its financial assistance programme, set to double the number of customers receiving help with their water bills.
This scheme, part of a £575million support package, aims to assist nearly 700,000 households – equating to around 1. million people -across the Midlands by 2030.
It is designed to cater to various financial needs, offering up to 70 per cent off bills, debt assistance, and more.
Jude Burditt, customer director at Severn Trent, said: “We’re really clear, that when it comes to our customers paying their water bill – that this shouldn’t be a worry, and we intend it to stay like that.
“Keeping bills low, and affordable is always a priority – but we know that people need help, and we want people to know it’s always there.
“It’s why we’re able to announce huge investment in the areas our customers care about, by also underpinning that with more financial support than ever, nearly doubling the number of people we can help.”
Severn Trent’s affordability schemes include the Big Difference Scheme, which offers up to 70 per cent off water bills for eligible customers, as well as debt support, payment breaks, and flexible payment plans.
The package also encompasses the WaterSure programme, capping bills for customers with low incomes, medical conditions, or large families.
The £575million investment aligns with Severn Trent’s broader plans, which have received early approval from Ofwat, the water services regulation authority.
This endorsement ensures substantial investment across the Midlands, not only enhancing financial support but also securing water supplies for future generations, reducing storm overflow impacts on rivers, and delivering top-tier customer service along with significant environmental benefits.
