REVEALED - New images reveal more about Worcester's planned Scala arts venue

Worcester Editorial 15th Jan, 2024   0

NEW visuals of Worcester’s mooted Scala Arts venue have been revealed.

The new images showcase what the venue’s studio will feature if planning permission is granted.

The designs show three multi-use studios, currently named The Stage, The Screen, and The Box in addition to a café which could act as additional performance space.

There will also be a foyer and reception area.

The renovation of some of the building’s historic features is shown, including its Art Deco staircase.

The Stage will have retractable seats and will look to host live performances.

The Screen will host talks, including film festivals, live broadcasts, and other screenings not typically shown in multiplexes.

Additionally, The Box will host workshops, courses and classes, as well as new digital experiences.

The new facilities will be fully accessible and used to develop and support new talent.

Worcester City Council has worked closely with six local arts organisations to prepare these plans, including C&T.

Paul Sutton, from C&T, said:

“Myself and the other arts leaders and organisations who have helped shape these plans alongside the City Council are excited to be sharing these designs with the community.

“Our collective vision is that the Scala will be a welcoming hub in the heart of the city where people can come together to enjoy, imagine, and cultivate a more creative future for Worcester.”

The council has drawn up a revised scheme to revive the buildings on Angel Street following a consultation.

The project is being funded with part of the city’s £17.9million share of the Government’s Future High Streets Fund.

The planning application has been submitted and people across the Faithful City will now be able to comment on the plans.
