REVEALED: First images of Worcester City's proposed new home

Worcester Editorial 8th Feb, 2024   0

BOLD new images of the proposed new home for Worcester City FC and community-focused sports and leisure amenities have been revealed.

City chiefs, together with Marsten Developments, have taken the wraps off the proposed ‘Worcestershire Community Sports Park’.

In addition to a ‘state-of-the-art’ football pitch with seating for more than 565 spectators and terracing for 660 fans there will also be a cricket pitch.

Some 200 to 250 energy efficient, affordable and ecological homes, an ultra-modern community building and retirement living also form part of the ambitious plans.

The masterplan prioritises sustainability and green infrastructure as access routes connect with existing pedestrian, cycle and public transport networks.

Environmental green buffers, sustainable infrastructure and strategic site zoning, mitigate visual impacts on the surrounding area.

Most of the access by road will be off Hurst Lane with a separate access on Hindlip Lane. It’s hoped such a proposal will reduce traffic congestion.

The proposed new community building envisages a four court sports hall, MP Studio, dance hall and cafe.

If approved, the stadium would be City’s first permanent home since leaving the iconic St George’s Lane in 2013.

The move kicked off a nomadic existence which included games in Kidderminster and Bromsgrove. City eventually returned ‘home’ in an agreement with the Worcestershire FA to use Claines Lane.

It would also mean City technically leaving Worcester as Fernhill Health lies in Wychavon district. Sixways, the current home of Worcester Raiders and former home of the folded Worcester Warriors, also lies in Wychavon.

City bosses hope the new home will meet the criteria for entry to the National League North or South, three divisions above their current level.
