New cafe at Worcester's Commandery

ONE OF Worcester’s most historical sites, The Commandery, has announced the opening of a new café, operated by Alex Daw of Little Al’s Kitchen, on Tuesday, July 2.

Alex Daw, who successfully runs the Balcony Café at Worcester’s Art Gallery & Museum, brings his expertise in managing cafés in historic settings to this new venture.

The café, named Little Al’s Kitchen at The Commandery, promises to enhance the visitor experience at this significant heritage site.

The Commandery, located in the heart of historic Worcester, is renowned for its rich history and served as the Royalist Headquarters during the Battle of Worcester in 1651.

It has functioned as a monastic hospital, a family home, a college for the blind, and the Littlebury Printworks before becoming a museum that reveals the captivating stories of Worcester’s past.

The café is set in a tranquil garden overlooking the canal, offering a serene retreat just a short walk from the city’s busy High Street.

Helen Large, Museums Worcestershire’s audiences manager, said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Little Al’s Kitchen to The Commandery.

“The café is a key part of the visitor experience, and Alex understands what makes a successful café both for museum visitors and for his regular customers.

“Everyone wants excellent customer service with a good cup of coffee, home-made cake, or lunch in a beautiful setting!”

Alex Daw is known for his commitment to environmental sustainability, a principle that has earned his business the Visit Worcestershire Sustainable Tourism award.

He said: “We are so excited to be building on our current partnership with Museums Worcestershire by taking on the café at The Commandery.

“We’ll be serving homemade cakes and treats and our fantastic locally roasted own-blend coffee, and we’ll also be developing a whole new menu based around local suppliers to bring the best of Worcestershire to the heart of the city.

“We can’t wait to welcome familiar faces and new customers.”
