WORCESTERSHIRE-based homeless charity, Maggs Day Centre, recently welcomed a team from Virgin Money’s Worcester branch as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme.
The team volunteered at Maggs’ Clothing Project, in the Tything, dedicating a day to help reorganise the service provided to the community.
Working alongside Maggs’ Volunteer Coordinator Steph and some of the charity’s volunteers, the Virgin Money team focused on sorting through the latest donations and reorganising the shop to make it more user-friendly and to accommodate seasonal stock.
Steph said: “Along with four of our regular volunteers, three of whom took a day’s annual leave to be with us, we welcomed a team from Virgin Money to help us have a reorganisation day at Clothing.
“We are continuously developing our service to ensure it’s organized and accessible for those we work with.
“After months of preparation, the Virgin Money team helped us achieve significant progress in just one day.”
Since it started in 2003, Maggs’ Clothing Project has supported people at various stages of their journey, from rough sleepers needing bedding and clothing to those who have recently secured housing.
In 2023 the project served 1,477 people, providing essentials ranging from sleeping bags and toiletries to kitchen appliances and food.
Jessica Smith, field business development manager at Virgin Money, said: “We were delighted to spend the day at Maggs’ Clothing Project and see for ourselves the fantastic work they do around the county.
“As part of our CSR at Virgin Money, we are allotted dedicated time for volunteering with local charities.
“We chose Maggs because of their countywide reputation and the dedicated support they provide to those in need in our community.
“It was extremely humbling to hear the stories and understand the variety of reasons people experience homelessness.
“Small actions, like donating unused clothes, can significantly impact those in need.
“Thank you to Steph and the volunteering team for organizing such a great day. We look forward to working with Maggs in the future.”
