Farrier House closure announcement sparks concern for Worcester patients

Worcester Editorial 16th Jan, 2024   0

WORCESTER health chiefs have moved to reassure concerned patients after it was announced the city’s Farrier House Surgery is set to close down in the coming weeks.

The surgery on Farrier Street has confirmed it will be closing its doors on Friday, March 1 in an open letter to patients on its website.

Bosses at Farrier House have said the closure was due to rising operational costs and ongoing staff shortages.

The letter added staff at Farrier House had worked with its NHS partners over many months to find someone to take over the running of the practice, but had been unsuccessful.

Patients were reassured they won’t be left without a GP as all nine practices in Worcester City will be welcoming a share of Farrier House patients onto their lists.

Those who are not set up to receive a text message or if you do not wish to register with the GP practice recommended can choose to register with any practice in the area currently accepting new patients.

Patients receiving treatment at the hospital have also been urged to inform them their GP practice has been changed.

Patients took to social media to voice their concerns about the closure.

Jan Moir said: “I’m really sad about this news – I have been with Farrier House surgery since I moved to Worcester nearly six years ago.

“Whenever I have needed an appointment or blood test I was often seen on the same day- I’m dreading changing to another surgery.”

Eve Marshall added she’d like to remain at Farrier House and was concerned that further surgeries may shut their doors.

A Farrier House spokesperson said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“We would like to reassure you no one will be left without a GP practice as a result of these changes.

“We want to express our gratitude for all the kind words our patients have already shared with us.

“Worcester City Primary Care Network and the other nine practices in the city have worked closely together over several months to make plans ahead of this closure to ensure our patients still receive the same quality care they receive from us.

“Until then, our services will continue as usual, so please don’t worry – we’re still here to support you.”
