Cycle down to Worcester repair cafe to get bikes repaired

Worcester Editorial 8th Jan, 2024   0

BIKE Worcester bosses have revealed their New Year’s resolution to team up with the city’s Repair Cafe volunteers.

Sessions take place on the second Saturday of every month at Unity House on Stanley Road from 11am to 1.30pm.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will see Bike Worcester volunteers on hand to fix punctures, tweak brakes and gears and tackle other issues.

The session will give Worcester cyclists a chance to get their wheels checked by experts from Bike Worcester.

Volunteer Al Pagan said: “We’re keen to help people get back on their bikes for leisure, school or work to enjoy the benefits of cycling.

“At this time of year, many people are keen to get out in the fresh air and get active again.

“Bike Worcester volunteers are happy to help with checking them over and solving common problems.

There are also regular monthly events in Worcester for adults and families to join to build their cycling confidence.

Critical Mass, the organised slow bike ride around the city, will be held next Saturday (January 20) from the Croft Road car park. Kidical Mass, the organised family bike ride is also held regularly by Bike Worcester.

Bike Worcester is a dedicated group set up five years ago to promote safe and accessible cycling in Worcester.

Working in partnership with Crowngate Shopping Centre, volunteers meet on Wednesday evenings to service and refurbish bikes.

The finished wheels are then made available to people who might otherwise struggle to afford one.

The Repair Cafe was set up by Transition Worcester, with support of the Duckworth Trust and volunteers.

It takes place every month and fixes anything from shirts to shears, toys to toasters and from clocks to cushions.

Refreshing tea and coffee, and delicious cakes are also available. They welcome new volunteer repairers too.
