MORE trains to London and a fast new service to Bristol could be on the cards as part of a new rail strategy for Worcester and the wider county.
The ambitious plan, adopted by Worcestershire County Council, will also include greater connectivity between Worcester and the rest of the county.
The new strategy seeks to deliver better rail improvements across the county and sets the county’s medium and long-term proposals to build on passenger demand until 2050.
The strategy looks to implement the Worcester Shrub Hill rail station master plan.
This refurbishment will bring a new plaza to provide an arrival gateway.
It also looks to modernise the signalling at stations across Worcester and to make stations in the Faithful City more accessible.
There are also plans for a regional service between Kidderminster and Bromsgrove, Worcester and Cheltenham Spa, Gloucester and Bristol.
Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills, Coun Marc Bayliss, said: “I am delighted to announce the adoption of this new rail strategy.
“It builds on the county’s first rail strategy which delivered the fantastic Worcestershire Parkway and a new station building at Kidderminster.
“The strategy highlights the county’s ambitions for driving forward rail improvements, recognising the role that rail plays in connecting people, communities, and businesses.’’
