Community concerns lead to two arrests following Worcester drug warrants

Worcester Editorial 1st May, 2024   0

TWO men have been arrested following drug warrants at two Worcester addresses on Wednesday morning (May 1).

After community concerns and intelligence around drug supply in the area, the warrants were carried out at properties on Astwood Road and Tunnel Hill.

Specialist tactical advisers were at the scene in chemical suits, protective goggles, and face masks to ensure it was safe in case of any potential drug labs at the addresses, although none were found.

A 32-year-old man was arrested at the Tunnel Hill address on suspicion of importing a controlled drug.

A small amount of drugs were recovered along with mobile phones and imitation firearms.

Another man, aged 42, was arrested at the Astwood Road address on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs – cannabis.

Large amounts of cannabis and cash were found.

Both remain in custody while enquiries continue and police are currently at the scene of both addresses as investigations are carried out.

Det Sgt Marie Green of Worcester Reactive CID said: “Two men have been arrested at the scene of the two drug warrants we executed this morning in response to community concerns and intelligence around drug supplies in the area.

“Quantities of drugs, money and firearms were recovered from the addresses and the arrested men remain in custody while enquiries are continuing.

“We would like to reassure the local community that although it can look alarming to see officers arrive in numbers and wearing protective clothing, these were isolated cases and there is no wider risk to the public.

“They will see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days and we would like to thank them for their patience and support during these investigations.”
