A WORCESTER school will be among those taking part in the Waddle of Worcester, which will welcome more than 40 beautifully designed penguin chicks winging their way to visit county youngsters in their classrooms.
Worcester’s Flyford Flavell Primary School will be taking part in the art trail after being sponsored by Evesham accountancy practice PSG Bowdens.
St Richard’s Hospice will bring 80 decorated penguin sculptures to the city’s streets and public places this July.
The hospice is sending out 40 baby penguins to be designed by youngsters.
Currently, each penguin chick is a blank canvas, but once transformed, the designs will be displayed in city shop windows and at Crowngate Shopping Centre.
Each penguin, including Flyford Flavell’s, will then be returned to its owner.
School headteacher Rosalind Bennett said: “It’s fair to say that everyone in the school community – from pre-school age right up to our staff – is extremely excited to be part of the great Waddle.
“It will be fantastic to have our own penguin who will come back to join the school family next autumn.”
The Waddle will run from Monday, July 22 until Sunday, September 15.
