WORCESTER University has been named the most electric car-friendly universities in the UK.
To create the score the number of charging devices and the university’s salary sacrifice policy were considered.
New research from Auto Trader showed that 64 per cent of the universities in the study lack a salary sacrifice scheme for electric vehicles.
The University of Worcester scored 100 points and had 100 electric car chargers available on campus as well as partnering with Tusker to offer a range of affordable and low-emission vehicles to colleagues via a salary sacrifice arrangement.
Erin Baker, editorial director at Auto Trader, said: “Overall, it’s encouraging to see so many educational institutions leading the way and taking active steps in making sustainable travel more accessible to staff, students and visitors.
“Whilst many of the universities are taking the initiative of installing electric vehicle charging points across their campuses, universities could also consider offering their employees a salary sacrifice scheme to support them getting an electric car.
“That way staff who live a further distance away can travel to work in a more eco-friendly manner without worrying about the hefty upfront cost of a brand-new electric car.
“We’re excited to see what the industry-leading institutions have in store next.”
