Worcester MP reaches out to older voters

WORCESTER’S MP is touring the city’s retirement homes in a bid to reach out to older voters.

Robin Walker visited residents of Sanctuary Retirement schemes at Warmstry Court in Quay Street and Noele Court on the Ombersley Road recently as part of efforts gauge the views of elderly residents who cannot access his regular surgeries.

Mr Walker gave residents the opportunity to discuss issues of concern with him on a one-to-one basis.

Among them was 76-year-old, Eddie Turner from Noele Court. He said: “I came along to listen to what Mr Walker had to say and I have found it really interesting. It was good to hear him talk about all the things that are happening in Worcester and to join in a discussion with him and other residents.”

Mr Walker said they discussed a range of issues including state pensions, bus passes for pensioners and a cap on the cost of care.

“It was fascinating to hear from a number of people who have lived in Worcester all their lives including one lady who lost her home when the city was bombed during the Second World War and a number of residents who remembered being canvassed by my late father.

I very much appreciated the chance to hear from so many people who know Worcester very well and such a collective source of wisdom,” he added.

The Worcester MP plans to visit more retirement schemes across the city over the next month.
