Worcester Mayor prepares for a city runs first

Worcester Editorial 30th Aug, 2022   0

WORCESTER Mayor Coun Adrian Gregson is looking for local people and businesses to sponsor him as he trains for this years Worcester 10k run.

Coun Gregson will be the first Mayor to participate in the Worcester City Runs while in office when he starts his 10k on Sunday, September 4.

He is competing as part of a team of at least ten and will be raising cash for his two Mayoral charities, Severn Arts and Onside Advocacy.

Severn Arts brings high-quality music and arts to people across the county while Onside Advocacy looks to ensure fairness and equality for adults who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or discriminated against.

Coun Gregson said: “I have completed 10k runs in the distant past and I’ve decided to take the plunge again because the Worcester City Runs are such a great opportunity to raise money for these two brilliant charities.

“I’ll be training when I can in between Mayoral engagements, but I’m not likely to set any speed records on the day.

“Come the big day I’ll be there to show the truth in the phrase that it’s the taking part that counts.”

This years Worcester City Runs will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday, including the return of the half marathon, 10k, young athletes run and Paula Radcliffe’s Families on Track initiative.

Worcester City Run founder and race director Steve Cram said: “Each year at the Worcester City Runs, we’re amazed by how many people use the event to raise money for good causes.

“Adrian is supporting two very deserving charities as Mayor of Worcester and we’re delighted that he’s going to take on the challenge of the 10k as part of his fundraising.

“Like everyone in the race, he’s certain to get brilliant support from the people of Worcester, who always turn out in force to cheer on our runners.”
