A WORCESTER man will tread the boards for the first time tomorrow in a play his grandmother appeared in 60 years ago at the same theatre.

Scott Drew will play Fred Dyson in When We are Married at Droitwich’s Norbury Theatre over the next two weeks.

Ann Webb played the part of Annie Parker in the 1955 production by the SAMA theatre group at the same venue.

Bricklayer Scott, 27, who had never been to the theatre before, let alone on stage, was also surprised to find his grandmother had kept the theatre programme and script.

“I took my girlfriend to the auditions and director Ian Thompson kindly asked me if I wanted to read. I put on a Yorkshire accent and was given the part of Fred.”

Scott is very close to Ann and she has given him advice on learning the lines and what to do.

“She still does the odd play at the local church and she can sing, shes still very active.”

Performances of the play by JB Priestly will take place at 7.30pm tomorrow, Friday and Saturday and on the same nights next week, March 22 to 24.
