BROWNIES and Girlguides in Worcester are set to receive new camping equipment following a donation from a leading regional housebuilder.

Persimmon Homes South Midlands named the 6th Worcester Girlguides a ‘Community Champion’ and awarded them with £500 to help fund new tents.

The Community Champions initiative aims to support grassroots activities that improve the quality of life for local people.

Carol Selway, head of sales at Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “Our Community Champions initiative is a great way to give a much-needed fundraising boost to local organisations and charities whose work benefits the community.

“We are in the early stages of our latest development in Worcester, off Walkers Lane, so were delighted to support a group in the local area.”

Speaking of the donation, unit leader Pamela Instan, said: “We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for this wonderful gift.

“Our organisation gives girls and young women the opportunity to make the most of their potential by learning new skills and building friendships in a fun environment.

“We are a very active unit and tend to go camping between three and four times a year, so our tents are well used and in need of being replaced. All the girls were very excited when we told them about the donation.”

Groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise money themselves can apply for match-funding of up to £1,000 by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.
