A WORCESTER charitable foundation has handed more than £25,000 raised at its glittering ball to Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The SJL Foundation, which has four trustees all based in Worcester, was set up by business insurance entrepreneur Simon Lancaster, who went to Bishop Perowne High School and lives locally.

Simon’s father and the late mother Pat Lancaster were both born and lived in Worcestershire too. Simon owns global business insurance brokerage, SJL Insurance Services. which employs more than 80 people across England.

The cash formed a large part of the £35,196.37 which was raised on the night in April.

“We feel proud to give £25,000 to Acorns Children’s Hospice,” Mr Lancaster said. “The SJL Foundation raised the amount via the sale of tickets, sponsorship deals and fund-raising raffles, auctions and games on the night among our 220 guests at the Bank House Hotel, Spa and Golf Club.

“We wanted every penny of the amount raised to go to the SJL Foundation’s two charity partners: Acorns Children’s Hospice and the next winners of the SJL Business Awards.”

Toby Porter, outgoing chief executive at Acorns, said: “Once again, we offer our sincere thanks to our good friends at the SJL Foundation for raising an incredible amount towards our children’s hospice care. Every penny raised will ensure we can be there for local families when they need us most, now and in the future.

“On a more personal note, it has been an absolute pleasure to work with Simon Lancaster and develop this special relationship.”
