Worcester care home residents celebrate major social media milestone

TECH-savvy Worcester care home residents have marked a major social media milestone.

Fernhill House has recently reached over 10,000 Facebook followers and had a party to celebrate.

The knees-up included live music from popular performer Debbie Miles. Debbie, a familiar face at the home. There were also cupcakes prepared by the kitchen team.

Fernhill House’s Facebook page has become a much-loved hub for families and the wider community, with videos of residents’ performances, activities and celebrations regularly attracting thousands of views, one even approaching the one million mark.

Residents themselves are closely involved in shaping the content, meeting regularly in the cinema to watch their videos back, read comments and suggest ideas for future posts. The team at Fernhill House already has more special events in the calendar, including a penguin visit, a community Christmas grotto, local school performances and a festive concert by the Salvation Army.

Fernhill House events manager Lucy Downes said: “Our Facebook page means so much to both our residents and their families. The residents love seeing the reactions to their videos, especially the ABBA ones, and their families get to enjoy those little glimpses of everyday joy.

“Reaching 10,000 followers felt like a milestone worth celebrating, and doing it with Debbie Miles and a room full of smiles was just perfect.”
