Worcester Bridge closed as New Road contraflow introduced

Worcester Editorial 22nd Feb, 2022   0

HIGHWAYS bosses have put plans in place for the contraflow on New Road as river levels on the Severn continue to rise.

Worcester Bridge and the bottom of Hylton Road are now closed temporarily to allow for the contraflow to be put into place in a bid to keep the link between the west of Worcester and the centre open.

The Observer reported last night on discussions between the highways department and the Environment Agency. That, together with extensive flooding on Hylton Road has now seen the need for the scheme to be introduced.

Worcester Bridge will re-open following the installation later today (Tuesday). Commuters are advised to use Carrington Bridge (South) or Holt Fleet (North) as an alternative.

The Bull Ring roundabout in St Johns will open to allow traffic to turn right on to Tybridge Street, and will remain open for retail park access as long as possible.
