Worcester book club to celebrate Dickens December with extra sessions

AN ADULT reading group at The Hive in Worcester will go weekly in December, as one of the most famous Christmas stories of all time is brought to life.

Books Aloud usually meets on the last Wednesday of each month. A short story is chosen, read aloud to the group, and then discussed together.

For the first three Wednesdays in December, the group will be enjoying A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens.

Books Aloud events are always free to attend, and don’t require booking.

Amanda Bonnick, who runs the sessions, said: “Books Aloud is a place where you can bring a coffee, kick back, and just listen. There’s a chance to chat at the end of each session, so you can meet fellow story enthusiasts, or you can just let it sink in quietly.

“We’re really excited to be serialising A Christmas Carol throughout December, so we’ll be meeting weekly and this will let the heartwarming, famous story permeate your Christmas preparations.

“There’s even a rumour there’ll be some mince pies. We look forward to meeting you to celebrate this yuletide classic.”

Stephanie Jones, manager of the Hive, added: “Books Aloud is a wonderful activity because it brings people together through the simple joy of shared storytelling.

“It’s accessible, relaxing, and a wonderful way to discover literature without any pressure. We love seeing the conversations and connections that grow from these sessions.”

Books Aloud will take place on the first three Wednesdays of December (3,10, and 17) from 3.30pm until 4.30pm.
