A WORCESTER woman was beaten with a paving slab before being strangled to death by her boyfriend who later hung himself, an inquest has heard.

Worcestershire coroner Geraint Williams ruled Daniel Fedec unlawfully killed his partner Malgorzata Marczak at their home in Debdale Avenue, Warndon Villages between 2.30am and 8am on Monday, October 5 last year.

The inquest heard how concerned family members raised the alarm having not seen the couple, who had been together since March 2015, for a few days.

DC Gina Humphris told the court Miss Marczak had last been seen by her sister at about 9pm on the Sunday (October 4).

Officers attended the property at 3pm on Tuesday, October 6 and found it to be locked with the curtains closed. Once they obtained entry, they called out but got no response.

They made their way into the bedroom where they discovered Miss Marczak’s naked body on the bed.

DC Humphris told the inquest the victim had ‘traumatic injuries’ to her head and how officers found a coping stone covered in blood and blood-stained clothing belonging to Mr Fedec next to her body.

A further search of the house led officers to the garage where they found Mr Fedec’s body hanging.

Pathologist Dr Alexander Kolar carried out a post-mortem and ruled the cause of death for Miss Marczak as manual strangulation and hanging for Mr Fedec.

When asked about the investigation by Mr Williams, DC Humphris said there was no clear motive for the attack and the couple had no history of violence.

The inquest heard how Mr Fedec had been referred to mental health services because of depression and ‘suicidal thoughts’ but he failed to attend the appointment.

DC Humphris told the inquest Mr Fedec was seen at a service station at 2.30am on October 5 buying energy drinks, whisky and filter papers in a blue Adidas jumper later found in the bed next to Miss Marczak.

Mr Fedec was next seen about 8am on October 5 when he met a friend just off Tolladine Road who described his actions as ‘very unusual’ and ‘out of character’.

“He didn’t speak to his friend as he would usually, he didn’t make eye contact and was staring straight ahead,” DC Humphris said.

The inquest heard how Mr Fedec had changed his clothes and was wearing a ‘Limited Edition’ top.

At 11.10am that same morning he got a bus from Worcestershire Royal Hospital towards the city centre.

He was then captured on CCTV in Angel Street before he boarded another bus at 11.30am back to Warndon Villages, the last point he was seen alive.

Reaching his verdict, Mr Williams described Mr Fedec as an ‘educated and intelligent man’ who would have known the consequences of his actions.

“It appears clear to me that Malgorzata Marczak was killed unlawfully and Mr Fedec took his own life,” he said

“All the evidence points to, for whatever reason, Mr Fedec having killed Miss Marczak and then having taken his own life,” he added.

Verdicts of unlawfully killed in the case of Miss Marczak and suicide for Mr Fedec were recorded.
