WODYS lend a hand to support young people

Worcester Editorial 26th Jul, 2017   0

MEMBERS of a Worcester theatrical group took a break from rehearsing to visit youngsters with illnesses and disabilities.

Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society’s Youth Section (WODYS) recently visited Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club, which offers holiday breaks and weekly youth club sessions for young people aged 10 to 24 with disabilities, complex health needs and challenging behaviour.

The group, which has chosen Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club as its 2017 charity, performed an array of songs from its upcoming performances of Whistle Down the Wind at the Swan Theatre from Tuesday, August 1 to Thursday, August 5, where 57 members, aged 8 to 18, will take to the stage.

Proceeds of the interval raffles will go to Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club.

Phil Weston, development manager at Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club, said: “The proceeds raised will enable our young people to access summer holiday and out-of-school activities.”

David Humphries, WODYS chairman and producer of Whistle Down The Wind, said: “I feel our group is very fortunate in being able to perform a musical each year at the Swan Theatre.

“We’re also very pleased to provide an opportunity for the public to help the youngsters from Perdiswell.”

The WODYS members also recently performed songs from Whistle Down The Wind on the City’s High Street and entertained patients at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
