Why this year's Worcester Festival is seeking your sunflower shots

Worcester Editorial 3rd Apr, 2023   0

GREEN-FINGERED Worcester residents have the chance to make a contribution to this summer’s Worcester Festival.

Organisers have teamed up with St Peters Garden centre for an exciting competition ahead of this August’s city-wide celebration.

Aspiring growers can pick up a free packet of sunflower seeds from the garden centre tills where they will also receive a free disc of peat-free compost to help them get their sunflower growing.

And when in full bloom during the fesitval, Worcester residents can send in a photograph to capture their success.

This year’s Worcester Festival runs from August 12 to 28. Entries can be submitted from August 12 and all entries need to be submitted by September 1.

Entries will be judged in three categories – prettiest sunflower, the tallest sunflower and the sunflower grown in the most unusual place – there will be prizes awarded for each category, information regarding prizes will be available on the Worcester Festival website and in the event guide closer to the time.

Organisers have called on Worcester residents, clubs and groups with a WR postcode to get involved in the summer spectacular.

All events are welcome, from a tea party and a workshop and teach people a new skill to a special performance or an open day, no event is too big or too small.

Free events and events which cost to take part in are both welcome.

Anyone who would like to host an event during the Worcester Festival can contact Chris Jaeger on [email protected] or visit www.worcesterfestival.co.uk
