Rob George 27th May, 2022

A MUCH-LOVED charity which provides vital care to local children is dedicating a week of appreciation to express gratitude to its supporters across Worcester.

Acorns Children’s Hospice, which in the past year has cared for 225 children and their families from their Worcester-based hospice, is thanking supporters in the city for helping make its care possible.

The Acorns Thank You Week (May 23 to May 29) will see grateful colleagues from across the charity thank as many of its supporters as possible through letter, email, phone and in-person.

Acorns chief executive, Toby Porter, said: “This week we wanted to take the opportunity to show our many friends across the community how much we value their amazing support – support which is right now benefiting hundreds of local families.

“The generosity of local people and organisations who kindly fundraise, run, walk, bake cakes, jump out of planes, or volunteer their time in our hospices, events or shops is phenomenal and completely humbling.

“Acorns Thank You Week is all about showing our gratitude and highlighting that incredible support, without which we wouldn’t be able to continue.”

Acorns provides specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened children and support for their families across the West Midlands and Gloucestershire.

The charity’s work includes a diverse number of services, including support for parents, siblings and grandparents, short breaks, emergency and end of life care.

At the charity’s three hospices, children have access to a homely environment staffed with highly skilled nursing teams and can take part in a range of fun, educational and therapeutic activities, regardless of ability.

The vast majority of funds Acorns needs to continue comes from donations and the profits of its network of charity shops.

Toby added: “Without the generosity local people and organisations – it simply would not be possible to provide the vital care local families need across our region whether it’s in the hospice or in the home

“So, whoever you are and however you support us, on behalf of everyone at Acorns, a huge thank you!”

It cost Acorns £27,000 per day to provides its lifeline care and support, the bulk of which comes from fundraising and donations.
