A NEW festival for the heart of Worcester and Worcester Woods Country Park will be held next month

Atmosphere, will take place on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10 as part of The Arches Worcester Festivals programme is a free event designed to appeal to all ages.

On Cathedral Square in the city centre there will be a stunning outdoor performance entitled Castaway by Highly Sprung which has been co-commissioned by Arches Worcester Festivals team at Severn Arts, Coventry City of Culture, Basingstoke Festival and the Canal and River Trust.

This performance with a ‘flying machine’, combines engineering, imagination and dynamic movement to explore the impact of today’s throwaway society on our waterways.

At Worcester Woods Country Park visitors can enter into the Actual Reality Arcade, a life-sized interactive game zone for all ages, inspired by classic arcade games, wander amongst the honey-perfumed colony of bees housed in the hand-made hives by Artizani, take a moment in the performance installation ‘Take Ten’ with bespoke and colourful swing chairs by Fluid Motion Theatre and Lorna Rees and are invited to join a community picnic to bring everyone together at the end of the day.

On the same site there will also be curated talks by experts on a wide range of specialist subjects – discussing nature, wellness, horticulture, and human connections will be on offer, as well as an opportunity to engage in an exciting new concept of engaging people through visual art and performance with poetry, My Heart, My Heart : Live Poetry Jukebox.

Each day begins with an hour of either yoga or meditation in a green open space.

There will be a Traders Village with home grown and hand-made products and information stands including Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, Canal and River Trust, Worcester Beekeepers and Severn Rivers sharing what they do.

Severn Arts festival director David Edmunds, said: “It’s a great festival which I hope gives people the opportunity to just pause and breathe out and take some time with their family and friends to come together and share the fantastic programme of events we’ve put together over the two days.”

Volunteers are being sought for the events to help welcome thousands of expected visitors. Anyone over the age 18 is asked to e-mail [email protected] for more.
