Warriors stars raise money for Acorns at Nando’s

A HOST of Warriors stars were at Nando’s in the heart of the city to help raise cash for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Seven Warriors players became Nando’s staff for the evening as they cooked and served customers following the restaurant’s recent reopening.

England international Chris Pennell sold raffle tickets alongside Ethan Waller, while Ryan Mills manned the tills.

Darren Barry and Luke Baldwin cooked on the grills and Jamie Shillcock and Dean Hammond waited tables.

Waller said: “We loved helping out at Nando’s this week and it was all for a really good cause.

“Acorns is a charity which is close to the heart of the Warriors players as we visit the hospice regularly to spend time with the children.

“Nando’s looks fantastic following its relaunch and they were really kind in allowing us to come and work for the evening to raise money.”

Shillcock added: “Dean and I had a great time waiting the tables. We were trying to clear and serve as quickly as possible, which was a bit of a challenge as we were new to it. I did briefly work as a waiter when I was at school but I wasn’t great at it.

“Fortunately the Nando’s staff were amazing and really helped us.”

“Balders and Darren looked pretty sweaty doing the cooking but no one sent any food back so they must have done a good job!”

Acorns Children’s Hospice has been the official charity partner of Warriors since the facility opened in March 2005.

Every season Warriors support Acorns by hosting a number of events, including a charity matchday at Sixways.

Warriors have raised in excess of £200,000 to assist the charity since its inception and this season hooker Niall Annett is the charity’s player ambassador.
