Warriors saga takes new twist after DCMS wrongly claim club is in administration

THE SAGA over Worcester Warriors proposed takeover has taken a new twist after the emergence of a letter which wrongly claimed the club was in administration.

A letter from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has emerged which falsely claimed the club’s directors had put the club into administration.

However red-faced DCMS have rushed out a correction via e-mail which acknowledged the error and said the letter ‘used lines which had been prepared in the eventuality of Worcester Warriors going to administration at the request of the directors’.

Sixways bosses have acknowledged the error in a statement and reiterated the club was NOT in administration.

“The statement was sent out in error by DCMS who have apologised for their mistake and the distress and anxiety it has caused to our staff and suppliers at what is already an extremely stressful time,” the club said.

“As we stated yesterday (Wednesday), we are awaiting the signing of Heads of Terms on an agreement with a buyer which would secure the long-term future of the club.

“We are continuing to work closely with the DCMS, RFU and PRL to ensure that this weekend’s Allianz Cup and Gallagher Premiership matches against Harlequins Women and Exeter Chiefs respectively can go ahead.
