Warndon named as 'Trailblazer Neighbourhood' in new government investment scheme

AN AREA of Worcester will receive investment up to £20million over the next ten years as part of a new Government regeneration scheme, writes Tayla O’Hara.

Warndon has been chosen as one of 25 ‘Trailblazer’ neighbourhoods – a bold project to support communities which have historically been overlooked or forgotten.

The scheme is backed by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and the funding aims to bring about visible improvements across the area for those living there.

The new regeneration fund unveiled as part of the Government’s last Spending Review and is designed to deliver transformative change in neighbourhoods through deep, sustained investment and strong local partnerships.

Warndon will now help shape a pioneering model for community-focused regeneration.

Worcester MP Tom Collins said it was excellent news.

“Areas like Warndon have been badly let down and this is the beginning of our new Government putting people first and doing things that genuinely improve people’s lives.

“We will work locally to make sure this money is controlled by local people and brings the type of real change that the people of Worcester deserve.

“The funding will prioritise the needs of local people – supporting projects that residents can see and feel.”
