SUPERMARKET giant Waitrose have confirmed their London Road store will open its doors this summer.

The finishing touches to the shell of the building are currently being carried out before it’s handed over to Waitrose at the end of this month for the inside of the store to be fitted out ahead of the opening on June 30.

Surfacing works to the car park are also underway which will provide 310 spaces for shoppers.

As the Observer previously reported, more than 1,000 city residents have applied for just 120 jobs that the new store has created.

Waitrose’s Worcester store will be one of the supermarket’s largest in the country and will offer a café, an eat-in bakery, a wine bar and a sushi bar.

James Armstrong, spokesperson for Waitrose said: “This is one of our largest branches in the UK and represents one of our biggest ever investments in a store.

“We want to ensure Waitrose Worcester is more than just a supermarket you simply go around and leave.

“We want to give our new customers the option to make the very best of what we have to offer, whether taking part in a club in the community room, providing a place to meet with friends or simply choosing from the great food and drink available.”
