YOUNG bookworms at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College welcomed nine local authors and poets into school to create a ‘Living Library’.

As part of National Share A Story Month celebrations, Polly Stretton, Ann Evans, Rod Griffiths, Kevin Brooke, Chas Eden, Alex Lee Davis, Chris Horn, Suz Winspear and Nina Lewis all met Year 7 students.

The authors talked to a total of sixty students in groups of four for ten minutes each and then the students moved onto the next author.

Students gained insight into the lives and work of each writer, as well has receiving advice about their own creative writing.

Nina Lewis, the current Worcestershire Poet Laureate, said: “It was great to hear so many students have a love for writing and reading. I would have loved this as a child, talking to people who are living the dream.”

Author Alex Lee Davis, said: “The students were entertaining and conducted themselves so well, they had me in stitches quite a few times.

“Many spoke about how much they were enjoying the event and that they had never met an author before. They were well mannered and had bags of humour.

College librarian Linda Bromyard organised the event and thanked all of the authors who gave up their time to make the event a success.
